"What’s the connection between education and development? My guest today, Dan Wagner, argues that it’s past time to move beyond conceptualizing development as economic growth.
For Dan, the framework we should use is learning as development. He calls on social scientists to work towards a Learning Gini Index that not only takes learning seriously but also equity."
This is particularly relevant in construction and commercial roles, where managing contracts, monitoring costs, and coordinating stakeholders require both structured knowledge and sound judgement. A commercial management course can provide a useful foundation for understanding commercial principles, but the real value comes from applying those concepts to everyday challenges and learning from the outcomes. Combining formal study with workplace experience also helps professionals recognise how regulations, financial considerations, and project objectives influence one another. Continuous development should therefore extend beyond gaining certificates, with regular reflection and practical application helping to turn knowledge into reliable professional skills. This approach makes learning more adaptable and relevant as responsibilities grow, while supporting better decisions and more consistent performance over time.

One thing that stood out to me is how easily siblings can develop very different experiences within the same family, especially when one child needs more attention or support because of their individual circumstances.
